Labor Day Weekend Bash

Art exhibits: Mattie Kelly Arts Center
NICEVILLE – The Mattie Kelly Arts Center Galleries at Northwest Florida State College have new exhibitions from Sept. 5 to Oct. 10. Gallery hours for the exhibits are 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday to Thursday and 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday. Exhibits and reception are free and open to the public. Call 729-6044.

Shark Tank exhibit
DESTIN – The Shark Tank Exhibit at the Destin History and Fishing Museum is ready for viewing at 108 Stahlman Ave. The “shark tank” is visible from the road and houses three shark mounts and other seafloor life.
Car Show
SANDESTIN – Grand Boulevard at Sandestin and the Destin Porsche Club will host the Fifth Annual Charity Car Show organized by the North Florida Region of the Porsche Club of America from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sept. 11. More than 100 cars, including Porsches, Lamborghinis, Lotus, Ferraris and BMWs, will line the boulevard of the Town Center. Admission is free and will include live music from Cheryl Jones. Junior Orchestra
NICEVILLE – The Junior Orchestra, a string ensemble of Northwest Florida State College, is open to young Okaloosa and Walton County string students (violin, viola, cello and string bass) in fourth through eighth grade who have at least two years of musical experience. Auditions: The Nutcracker

A Starry, Starry Night
SANDESTIN – Beachside seating, fine cuisine, wine and live entertainment can be found at the Hilton Sandestin Beach Golf Resort & Spa’s adult-only “A Starry, Starry Night” from 6:30 to 9 p.m. Sept. 24. Art exhibit: Hot & Bothered
VALPARAISO – The Heritage Museum of Northwest Florida’s new exhibit, Hot & Bothered, will be on view through Oct. 30. The exhibit features a 1930’s era kitchen with a rare Universal Electric Stove, collections of household items, electric fans dated from 1906 and advertising from days gone by. Admission is $2; free for HMNF members and children under 4. An opening reception will be held from 10 am. to noon Sept. 11.
Destin Seafood Festival
DESTIN – The 32nd Annual Destin Seafood Festival will set up on the Destin Harbor at the Destin Fishing Fleet Marina, City of Destin Royal Melvin Heritage Park, and Fisherman’s Wharf from 4 to 10 p.m. Sept. 17, 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Sept. 18 and 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sept. 19. Headliners are Starship Starring Mickey Thomas on Friday and Loverboy on Saturday, along with favorite regional acts throughout the weekend. In addition to great music, attendees may enjoy fresh local seafood from some of the area’s restaurants, browse through arts and crafts booths, win prizes from the Florida Lottery, and more. A kids’ area, complete with rock climb, inflatables and more, will entertain the younger crowd. A portion of the proceeds will benefit the Destin Fishermen’s Fund.

The Destin History and Fishing Museum will provide parking for Destin Seafood Festival visitors for a donation of $5 per car. Parking will be provided at the two parking lots adjacent to the Museum’s 108 Stahlman Ave. location behind What-A-Burger on U.S. 98. Alan Laird of AJ’s Seafood and Oyster Bar is donating the use of his lot in support of the Museum. Parking spaces will be available from 3 to 9 p.m. Sept. 17, 9 a.m.to 9 p.m. Sept. 18 and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sept. 19. Each car parked will receive a coupon for one free admission to the Museum and a $5 coupon redeemable at AJ’s Seafood and Oyster Bar.
Parking will also be available at St. Andrews By-the-Sea Episcopal Church, 307 Harbor Blvd. Park in the front lot for a $10 donation and in the back lot on Mountain Drive for $5. Lots will be open from 3:30 to 9:30 p.m. Sept. 17, 9:30 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. Sept. 18 and 12:30 to 3:30 p.m. Sept. 19. Bottled water will be available for $1. Proceeds will help fund the church’s outreach ministries in support of the homeless.
Via Colori
SANDESTIN – The 13th Annual Via Colori will be held from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sept. 18 at Grand Boulevard at Sandestin Town Center. All proceeds benefit Seaside Neighborhood School. Film Series
DESTIN – The Friends Guild of the Destin Library will sponsor a free movie night showing “For My Father”(Hebrew and Arabic with English subtitles) at 7 p.m. Sept. 21. Dog Daze
FORT WALTON BEACH – The Panhandle Animal Welfare Society’s “New Leash on Life” Dog Walk/Run in conjunction with Dog Daze will be held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sept. 25 at the Fort Walton Beach Landing. Late registration for the walk, 1.25 miles, will begin at 8 a.m. and the walk/run will begin at 9 a.m.
Individuals, families and “Packs (minimum of five walkers)” can participate. Prizes will be awarded for top fundraisers in various categories.
PAWS will also offer $5 rabies vaccinations and $15 Microchips.

Blue Angels Air Show
PENSACOLA – The Navy’s Flight Demonstration Squadron, the Blue Angels, will close the 2010 season at their annual Homecoming Air Show aboard Naval Air Station Pensacola Nov. 11-13. Prior to the Blue Angels F/A 18 Hornet performances, the Blues’ C-130 Hercules transport known as “Fat Albert” will perform short field take-off and low level passes. Civilian and military aircraft will perform aerobatics throughout the day with the gates opening at 8 a.m. and shows starting at 10 a.m. A night show will begin at 4:30 p.m. Nov. 11 as aircraft light up the sky with full afterburner and pyrotechnics.

Fall Art Festival

The Emerald Coast Wildlife Refuge is accepting donations of artwork for “Artfully Wild”, a fine art auction and reception to be held Nov. 18 in Fort Walton Beach to raise funds to assist in their mission of education, conservation and rehabilitation for the welfare of Florida's natural fauna.
