True Blue: Destiny Worship Center takes the title

Mike Manthey connected for three hits to lead Destiny Worship Center Blue in a 7-5 win over Destin United Methodist Church in the championship game of the Upper Division end-of-season tournament of the Church Coed Softball League at Morgan Sports Center in Destin.

Manthey clobbered two doubles and a single.

Methodist got on the board first with two runs in the top of the first inning. Destiny Blue evened the score in the bottom of the second with two runs.

In the top of the fourth, Methodist picked up one run.

In the bottom half, Destiny Blue knocked in five runs to take the lead for good. Methodist added one run in the fifth and sixth innings.

Ronnie Faulk doubled and singled for three RBIs for Destiny Blue. Teresa Imideke hit two singles for an RBI.

Ken Gallander was tops for Methodist with a double and a single for an RBI. Adam McGuire doubled and singled, and Macy Morgan singled.

•Earlier in the tournament, Destin Methodist slipped by the Frozen Chosen 14-13.

Methodist led 6-0 at the end of three, and 9-0 after five complete innings.

In the top of the sixth, Methodist scored two more, however, Frozen Chosen mounted a comeback scoring seven runs in the bottom half.

In the seventh, Frozen Chosen didn’t just lay down as they put six more runs on the board.

Adam McGuire tripled, doubled and singled for two RBIs for Methodist. Mitchell Ankerson doubled and hit two singles, and Emily Edwards slapped a triple and a single for an RBI.

Ortie Messenger hit three singles for three RBIs for Frozen Chosen. Karen Parrish and Stephanie Saddler each hit two singles for an RBI, and Tracy Stanley hit two singles.

LOWER DIVISION

•Immanuel Anglican 13, Destiny Worship Center Green 1

Lindsey Cannon led Immanuel with two doubles and a single for three RBIs. Betsy Allaway doubled and hit two singles for an RBI, and Amanda Barnes connected for two singles.

Missy Terry ripped two singles for Destiny Green. Al Terry and Aaron Krumenaker each hit a double.

•Immanuel Anglican is scheduled to play Shoreline church at 6:45 p.m. Thursday for the championship of the Lower Division.
