Fajitas Mexican Grill serves favorites
Mexican restaurants can be so alike, there’s often no surprise as to what’s on the menu — tacos, burritos, enchiladas. Although I love Mexican food, I was hoping I wouldn’t be staring at the same menu I’ve come across at dozens of canteens.
Although Fajitas Mexican Grill Restaurant did have some of the favorites one can enjoy at almost any Mexican restau-rant, they also have enough different offerings to make it stand out from the regular joints.
The food
I actually was surprised when I checked out the menu for Fajitas Mexican Grill before my visit. I knew I wanted fajitas, just not the regular chicken or steak variety. Instead, I decided to go all out, and I brought my friend, Erica, along to help.
I told her since we were eating at a place called Fajitas, we should eat them as well. And we should eat the fajita platter with the most variety. So this is how we came to order the Parillada — a combination of steak, chicken, shrimp, chorizo and pork.
While we waited for our meal, we decided to try the queso dip. It was the perfect thickness, staying on the chips until it made it into our mouths. The salsa also was good and like the cheese dip thick, yet could have been a tad spicer.
Our mouths were wa-tering as the sizzling plate made its way to our table. But wait, what are these links atop the mountain of meat and vegetables. It didn’t appear to be chorizo — too light. As the food got closer there was only one thing it could be — hot dogs.
The hot dogs were there. They were unexplainable, and I hoped this wasn’t an attempt at fooling us into thinking we were eating chorizo. After taking a bite and once and for all confirming that it was a hot dog, we discarded them and made our way to the sizzling goodness on the skillet.
Large shrimp and well-seasoned steak and chicken with crumblings of — yes! — chorizo were rolled into tortillas and topped with sour cream, guacamole and lettuce and tomatoes.
Erica and I ate about four tortillas full of fajitas and had to call it quits with more than half of the plate still left. We definitely think four people could have filled up on this meal supposedly for two. Erica said the hot dogs were a good idea, if you had children with you.
My favorite part of the whole meal was the chorizo. It was so good with all the spices mixed into the meats. Next time I would get just chorizo fajitas, which are available.
The atmosphere
Fajitas is painted in bright yellow and blue and. Hand-woven Mexican blankets serve as table clothes and adorn the walls along with sombreros. Diners can choose to sit at either tables or booths.
The service
Our server was extremely attentive and never let our glasses get half empty.
A final taste
Set back in Miramar Plaza, Fajitas is a great place to get some really good food after a day of shopping or at the beach. Other customers raved about how they loved coming there to eat.
