Looking for a few good fishheads — New directors for Rodeo 2010 to be elected at annual meeting Thursday

The planning starts now.

The Destin Fishing Rodeo, the oldest organization in Destin, is seeking members to join them in making the 62nd annual Rodeo in October the best ever.

Memberships, $20 for individuals and $35 for families, are now available.

You can also join at Thursday’s annual membership meeting at 6 p.m. at AJ’s Seafood and Oyster House. The meeting is open to all members of the Rodeo (new and existing). Complimentary heavy hors d’oeuvres and non-alcoholic beverages will be served. A cash bar will be available.

The Rodeo is a volunteer-based, non-profit organization whose purpose is to promote recreational fishing within Destin; strengthen the claim of “The World’s Luckiest Fishing Village”; and to foster good sportsmanship and safe fishing among the general public by providing an organized competition for recreational fishermen.

The Rodeo, which takes place the entire month of October, is in need of people whose interests range from fishing to beauty pageants and everything in between.

At the general meeting, members will get a chance to sign up for various committees that oversee rules, marketing and the Miss Destin pageant.

Three new directors will also be elected to the Rodeo board.

This year’s slate of candidates includes long-time Rodeo volunteers and participants. They are John Brashears, owner of For Reel Photos; Isabel Graef, co-owner of the charter boat Huntress; Becky McFarland, a Realtor at Rising Star Realty; Charlie Noonan, owner of The Inn on Destin Harbor; Jason Wilbur, the branch manager at Regions Bank; and Ann White, owner of Ann White Interiors.

There will also be write-in spaces available for additional nominations. Voting is limited to members in good standing only.
