'3 Julias' will tape episode at Rave in Destin

SANTA ROSA BEACH, FL — Winning free movie tickets in August is easy — all you have to do is pick your favorite Julia Child recipe.

Picking the recipe might be difficult, however, because Child published dozens of cookbooks and appeared on television at least 250 times.

Local 30A TV show “The 3 Julias” is celebrating the release of the upcoming Columbia Pictures production “Julie & Julia” that profiles Julia Child and a woman who blogged about cooking each of the 524 recipes in Child’s “Mastering the Art of French Cooking.”

“The 3 Julias” will tape an episode of the show at Rave Motion Pictures in Destin Commons at 1 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 9 and hopes to feature some of Child’s recipes selected by local residents.

Viewers are invited to request their favorite dish at www.30abuzz.com.

Those who submit recipes will win free movie tickets and one person will win a $400 iTouch.

Rave Motion Pictures will host a reception and chance to meet the local stars at 12:45 p.m. The taping will begin at 1 p.m. and will air on Mediacom, Comcast and Cox channels in Walton, Okaloosa and Bay counties, as well as the on 30A television Web site.

The Web-based comedic cooking show has been running for 15 months. It features host Julie Brown, local singer Helen “Redd” Vizard, and Redd’s husband, Paul, who dresses up as “Julia Childs” in honor of Julia Child.

"My husband plays a great Julia Child," Vizard said. “The interaction between the three of us does lead to some high jinks. We do get a lot of positive feedback from viewers, and we have a blast filming the show”

Guest chefs scheduled to be on hand at the taping for “quick fire” challenges are Alison Porter from Chan’s, Carl Shaubut from Fire Restaurant and Sara Schreifer of Sara K’s.
