NC woman sentenced in teen's heroin death

LEXINGTON, N.C. (AP) — A North Carolina woman will serve time behind bars after pleading guilty to involuntary manslaughter in the death of Lexington teenager who died from taking heroin that authorities said she sold.

The Dispatch of Lexington reported (http://bit.ly/tLcjSJ) that 28-year-old Brandy Blackwell of Richfield was sentenced Wednesday. A Davidson County judge ordered her to serve up to almost four in prison in connection with the 2008 death of 19-year-old Thomas Henley.

Blackwell also pleaded guilty to possession with intent to sell and deliver heroin and sale of heroin.

Thirty-three-year-old Michael Scott Simpson of Denton is charged with second-degree murder in Henley's death.

A prosecutor said evidence showed Henley and friends went to Simpson's house to party. He said Blackwell brought heroin to the house at Simpson's request, then left.
