Man charged in battery, robbery outside church

Daily News

MARY ESTHER — A 39-year-old man has been charged in a robbery outside of a church in the Sylvania Heights neighborhood earlier this month.

Anthony Arthur Hawkins, of Fort Walton Beach, approached a man as he was leaving a church on Hickory Street about 9 p.m. Sept. 14, according to an arrest report from the Okaloosa County Sheriff's Office.

Hawkins "blindsided" the man by punching him in the face and then took $100 from his wallet, according to the report.

The man suffered injuries from the punch.

Hawkins was charged with robbery with no weapon, a second-degree felony. He was being held in the Okaloosa County Jail on a $10,000 bond Thursday.
