The Club is in the final weeks of our extensive calendar of events. Last weekend the 24th annual Soundsations Concert was a great success! The first harbor cruise dodged the showers and a hardy group enjoyed a two-hour cruise aboard the Southern Star, serenaded by David Hall. Monday, Feb. 18, a second cruise will depart on the same boat with Chuck Lawson providing the entertainment.
Last Tuesday a large crowd was on hand for both meetings at the Community Center. Not only were they well entertained by David Seering, but they could also attend the Snowbird Craft Show. Thank you to volunteers Liz Barrat Susan Cleveland and Sharon Larson who coordinated the show, and to all the club members who participated as vendors and customers. Appreciation also to Carol Griffin, for her donation of two lovely quilted bags as door prizes.
In the category of yet to come are two golf events and the final TGIT party of the season. Next Tuesday, Feb. 19, the final party of the season will be held at the Seascape Conference Center from 3-6 p.m. Christian & James will be on hand for a farewell performance. Tickets are $5 at the door.
Wednesday, the ladies will hit the course at Bluewater Bay for a fun day of golf, lunch and prizes. The following Wednesday, all snowbird golfers are urged to support the American Cancer Society, as they have a fun day of golf at the same location. Tickets are still available, $50 per player, including golf, lunch, and prizes. See Mike Krueger at the meeting for details. Fishing coordinator Jack Boex is still offering advise and information about all kinds of fishing experiences in the local area. See Jack at the front of the gymnasium for pictures of some of his catches.
Storage locker tickets went on sale at last week's meeting and will be available again on Feb. 19 between the meetings. Tickets are $8 for boxes 18x18x16 inches. Bicycle tickets are $15. For any questions regarding other items, please talk to Tom Millar at the meeting. The locker will open for the deposit of items starting Saturday, Feb. 23, from 8-9:30 a.m., continuing every Saturday until March 23.
The Friendship Club will meet at Miller's Ale House following the 11 a.m. meeting Feb. 19. This group is also planning some weekend activities. Join them for lunch to find out about these excursions. Ken Yee still has some room on the last three Casino Bus excursions for the year. See him for tickets at the front of the auditorium. Chorus and poker will return to their regularly scheduled times this week.
The Destin Snowbird Club is already making plans for next season! At next week's meeting, a representative from Travel Ventures will be on hand with information about Caribbean Cruises for next winter.
The nominating committee is still looking for a second vice president, secretary, and two members at large. Please come forward with your talents and volunteer to fill one of these positions if you are able. Remember to check out the website at www.destinsnowbirds.org for the pictures photographer David Harkness has posted of all activities to date.
