Oh, Snap! After cold days, fishing heats up; Anglers catch, release plenty off-limits snapper

"We caught a lot of red snapper," Godwin said. But of course the snapper had to go back.

As for the triggerfish and other fish, "We'd get a good bite going, then the porpoise would take them," Godwin said.

Chicago anglers on the Rookie with Capt. Matt Woods came in with a big catch of amberjack and a couple of mingo.

The party boat New Florida Girl's American Spirit had big trips on Wednesday and Thursday filling the racks both days with mingo, white snapper and a few triggerfish and lane snapper in the mix.

The Stress Relief with Capt. Scott Robinson at the helm came in Wednesday with a rack full of white snapper.

"After the wind died out, it got nice," Robinson said. "We caught some huge red snapper, about 25 head. We had some that would pull the pole right out of your hand."

Fishing is heating up, so don't miss the boat.
