Snowbirds dance the night away at annual sock hop

The requirement to attend the sock hop was not snowbird membership, as noted by eight-year-old Payton Gowing. The third grade student from Destin attended the sock hop with her grandma, Brianna Corso.

"This is really fun," said Gowing. "I like how everything is glowing."

The night was entertaining for participants and audience members alike — snowbirds and non-snowbirds.

Although the 1950's theme has proven popular over the year's, Rushing, Kim Lee, Pamela Scott and Kim Scott — all  heavily involved with planning the sock hop — are thinking about changing the theme next year if the birds oblige.

"We might do 1960's or 1970's . . . or we may stay 1950's," Scott said.
